Job Description
Job Summary:
- The Orthopedic Clinical Assistant supports orthopedic physicians and physician assistants with direct patient care and clinical operations.
- Responsibilities include casting, splinting, assisting with procedures, patient intake, charting, and ensuring efficient patient flow within the clinic.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist orthopedic providers with patient care, including application and removal of casts, splints, braces, and external fixators for patients of all ages.
- Prepare exam and treatment rooms; maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked clinical environment.
- Anticipate provider needs during procedures and ensure appropriate supplies and instruments are available.
- Conduct patient intake: obtain medical history, vital signs, and document in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Perform basic clinical tasks such as dressing changes, suture or staple removal, and post-procedure care.
- Assist with scheduling tests, procedures, and surgeries; collect and process documentation, orders, and consents.
- Support durable medical equipment (DME) processes when the DME Coordinator is unavailable.
Education:
- High school diploma, GED or higher level degree if hired after March 1, 2025.
Licensure/Certification:
- Orthopedic Tech Certification.
- American Heart Association BLS.
Experience:
- Orthopedic experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong critical thinking and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
- Proficient with general office and medical equipment (computer, scanner, phone, EMR systems).
- Professional and positive demeanor in all patient interactions.
