Job Description

Job Summary:

  • The Orthopedic Technician, Sr. provides exceptional customer service and clinical support to patients and licensed providers.
  • This role assists in orthopedic procedures, including casting and splinting, while helping manage efficient patient flow within the clinic or emergency center.
  • The technician ensures accurate documentation, maintains supplies, and provides education to patients and families on cast care and follow-up instructions.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Apply casts, splints, and perform basic orthopedic hardware maintenance.
  • Assist licensed providers during patient visits and emergency cases.
  • Ensure timely intake, rooming, and efficient flow of patients throughout the visit.
  • Educate patients and families on cast maintenance, skin care, and post-cast instructions.
  • Complete and maintain accurate, timely documentation according to departmental standards.
  • Communicate effectively with the orthopedic care team and coordinate operational needs.
  • Manage casting and clinic supplies; update PAR levels and report needs to the supply coordinator.
  • Share responsibility for checking and restocking exam room supplies daily.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience performing basic casting, splinting, and hardware maintenance.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proficiency in basic aseptic technique and familiarity with orthopedic instrumentation, hardware, equipment, and casting/splinting procedures.
  • Understanding of pediatric developmental stages, patient care protocols, and medical terminology.
  • Strong customer service and time management skills.
  • Ability to make quick decisions and demonstrate initiative in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with personal computers and standard clinic/patient care software and equipment.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
