Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs laboratory procedures using established and approved protocols with independent judgment and minimal supervision.
- Responsible for quality control, instrument maintenance, and specimen procurement and processing.
- Addresses customer inquiries, requests, and concerns thoroughly, following through positively and appropriately.
- Effectively communicates both verbally and in writing.
- Notifies leadership of potential problems immediately to avoid compromising patient care.
- Recognizes abnormal or inconsistent results and investigates appropriately and timely.
- Demonstrates ability to prioritize and multitask to complete assignments in a timely manner.
- Maintains clean and organized workstations.
- Performs corrective action as appropriate and documents results accurately.
- Provides assistance in training new employees and students.
- Participates in continuing education annually.
- Preferred Skills & Experience
- Two years of clinical laboratory experience preferred.
- Education:
- Associate’s degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology, including an internship at an affiliated laboratory from an accredited institution, required within 2 months of hire.
- Combined military experience and training that aligns with CLIA and CAP requirements.
Licensure & Certifications:
- MLT or MLS certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent required within 1 year of hire.
- ASCP certification or equivalent required within 6 months of hire.
