Job Description

Job Summary:

  • The radiation therapist will administer ionizing radiation and radioactive substances to patients under the supervision of a Radiation Oncologist and in accordance with New York State Department of Health Code part 16. guidelines.
  • In addition, the radiation therapist must operate high voltage machinery safely and accurately and to communicate to pertinent personnel when malfunctions occur.
  • The radiation therapist will concern themselves with the welfare of the patient at all times and will conduct themselves in a responsible and professional manner.
  • Satisfactory completion of a training program in a Radiation Therapy Technology program in an AMA approved school, meeting the requirements for registry by the ARRT, and being licensed as a Radiation Therapist by the State of New York Department of Health is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • The Radiation Therapist provides radiation therapy to patients as prescribed by a radiation oncologist according to established practices and standards.
  • Accurately enters and maintains patient treatment parameters into the electronic medical record.
  • Accurately interprets a computerized treatment plan.
  • Observes patients daily for reactions and immediately reports any adverse reactions to the Radiation Oncology Nurse or the Radiation Oncologist.
  • The Radiation Therapist should facilitate complex problem solving regarding technical issues.
  • Display professional conduct essential to the well-being of the radiation oncology patient.
  • Adhere to NYSDOH, ARRT, and ACRO radiation safety protocols.

Certifications/ License:

  • Must be licensed as Radiation Therapist in NY (can obtain during onboarding).
  • Must have ARRT certification.

Equipment:

  • Varian True beam.
  • Varian 21ix.
